Police Performance
One Of The Worst In The Country
WILTSHIRE police languish at the bottom end of government
performance tables despite achieving one good rating and six "fair" assessments.
The county force scored just eight points out of a possible 21, making it one of the poorest performing forces in the country.
Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary gave Wiltshire police a "good" rating for the way it tackles
crime and a "fair" rating in each of six other categories.
These cover how it tackles crime, its serious crime and public protection role,
protecting vulnerable people, its level of satisfaction and fairness, the implementation of
neighbour hood policing, local priorities and its resources and efficiency performance.
A police spokesman said today that while at the lower end of the
performance tables, it did not mean the force was "performing poorly."
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Marsh described the report as "a good news story for
Wiltshire" and pointed out that the force was meeting all national standards.

Police Admit To Failings
WILTSHIRE police chiefs have put up their hands and admitted to failings in the system after the
Journal produced a worrying dossier last week of complaints about the way people's attempts to report crimes are being handled.
The two-page report highlighted the agonising amount of time many people were spending trying to
contact police on the line handling the 0845 408 700 number.
It also revealed a growing frustration among callers over the failure to send police officers to reported incidents, and a
feeling among some sections of the public the information they are passing on is not being treated seriously.
Some people even told the Journal they had lost faith in the police and would never again "waste time" contacting them.

Police. Mother Forced To Call The Police For Help From Her Mobile Phone At The Police Station
On Saturday 29th December 2007 the mother of a very distressed 18 year old
rang the Wiltshire Police on their infamous 0845 408 700 number to report that
her daughter had been a victim of a serious road rage incident on the A345 near
Amesbury. The switch board operator tried to put the lady through to Salisbury
Police station but all she got was an answering machine, so she rang 0845 408 700
again.
When the lady finally got through to Salisbury Police station she was told that
she and her daughter had to go to the Salisbury Divisional Police headquarters
on Wilton Road in person and make a statement.
When the lady and her daughter arrived at Salisbury Police station they were greeted by
an elderly man behind the reception desk who flew into a fit of rage after she
expressed a preference to give a statement to a real Police officer instead
of a receptionist. The lady tried to explain as politely as she could why she
preferred to speak to a Police officer, but the old man refused to listen and
threw his clip board across the room, then started to froth at the mouth and
said there wasn't any Police
officers in the building!
The lady and her daughter decided to wait at the station until a Police officer
arrived but the man behind the reception desk became so rude and threatening
towards them that the mother was forced to use her mobile
phone to call Devizes Police for help!
The Police officer who took the call at the Divisional Police Headquarters in
Devizes was horrified when he heard the lady standing in the Salisbury Divisional Police
headquarters asking for help on her mobile phone.
Several Police officers arrived at the deserted station within minutes of the
call to the Police officer in Devizes.
Questions are now being asked as to why a Police station the size and importance
of Salisbury Divisional Police Headquarters was left totally
devoid of any fully trained Police Officers on 29th December 2007.
Questions are also being asked as to whether the old man that was left in charge
of Salisbury Divisional Police Headquarters on 29th December 2007 was under the
influence of alcohol.

square feet but not a single Police officer in sight to help.
